• A positive outlook for the licensing industry

If the past couple of industry events have proved anything, it’s that the international licensing sector is thriving. The annual Licensing Awards ceremony showcased the incredible talent that individuals, brands and teams in our sector possess, while Olympia’s Brand Licensing Europe highlighted the dynamism and potential of the market. Watching the hustle and bustle generated by 300 exhibitors (representing thousands of brands) and 8,000 attendees, it’s clear we’re still operating in a lucrative market place, despite what’s been a tough couple of years for lots of businesses. And we’re not just talking about particular sectors of the licensing arena here. Optimism is industry-wide.

However, prosperous outlook aside, it’s apparent from conversations I’ve had with various individuals in the sector that not everyone is thinking their licensing deals through…

  • Vine videos copyright issues

Our managing partner Henna has been speaking to some national newspapers today about the Premier League’s announcement that it will be cracking down on fans who post unofficial Vine videos to social media sites due to copyright issues. See what Henna thinks on the issue below:

“The Premier League is cracking down on the illegal use of the copyright because it undermines the lucrative commercial deals that it has entered into with various entities and media outlets. It is being forced to tackle the issue head on and in a very public manner to demonstrate to its commercial partners that the issue is being taken extremely seriously. I would imagine that the Premier League has had some stressful conversations with its commercial partners about the unauthorised use of this copyright. If the Premier League doesn't get control of the situation its commer…

  • We want to meet you at Licensing Expo in Vegas!

Henna and the team will be attending Licensing Expo in Vegas again this year, from 17-19 June. It’s the fifth year we have attended the show and it’s becoming increasingly important for us as we roll out our international growth strategy. This year, we’re looking forward to meeting new brand owners and licensors to discuss how our royalty audits could help them.

As a business, we’re now working on an increasingly global scale; in fact over 50% of our entire business comes from delivery of international royalty audits for our clients. We are now conducting programmes across Europe, the USA, Latin America, South Africa and Australia.  Royalty audits are often bypassed but should be a key aspect in any brand/IP owners’ strategy. We recommend that they are conducted at least annually; especially as licensing opportunities become increasingly global …

  • A brilliant BLE

Grown men wondering the floors of a tradeshow in bright pink cupcake suits – who else could it be other than the Lowe brothers? It wouldn’t be a tradeshow without them appearing in a crazy costume. This was just one of the highlights from this years’  which provided the 360 team with a great mix of fun and business.  We had a fantastic time catching up with clients and seeing a number of familiar faces.

The event, held in London over three days, was the perfect opportunity to catch up with acquaintances and find out what some of the world’s biggest brands are up to. From Mike the Knight, to Moshi Monsters, to Hello Kitty, the brands were out in force. As always, the Moshi Monsters party was a great affair, with everything from a live band, popcorn machines and a fun photo booth.

It wasn’t all play and no work though; we especially enjoyed…
